Piero FORNASETTI (1913–1988)
Four-Panel Screen “Strumenti Musicali & Uccelli” circa 1953

Lacquered wood with double-sided lithographed decoration of caged birds and musical instruments.

Height: 144 cm by 132cm by 3.5

A rare early Fornasetti screen, decorated on both sides with finely executed lithographic imagery of suspended birdcages, stylised birds and an assortment of musical instruments. The whimsical, surreal combination of aviary and musical motifs is characteristic of Fornasetti’s most inventive period in the early 1950s. Comparable models are published in Patrick Mauriès, *Fornasetti*, Thames & Hudson, 1991, pages 166 and 266.
