A fine and rare 19th-century cast iron pair of Whippets by the Coalbrookdale Company, Shropshire, depicting a seated whippet with elegantly modelled features and naturalistic detailing, Retaining traces of its original bronzed finish and clearly bearing the Coalbrookdale foundry mark and the diamond registration lozenge for 22 March 1871.

This celebrated model, sometimes described as the “Greyhound” or “Whippet” stand, appears illustrated in the 1875 Coalbrookdale Catalogue, Plate 33, No. 36, and epitomises the company’s blend of sculptural grace and technical mastery.
