A German Botanical Teaching Model of a Maple Flower (Aceraceae)

A German Botanical Teaching Model of a Maple Flower (Aceraceae) By Institut Wichers & Co., Berlin, circa 1900

A finely crafted and hand-painted enlarged model of a maple (Acer) flower, produced for botanical instruction by Institut Wichers & Co., Berlin. Executed in painted papier-mâché and mounted on its original turned base, the model illustrates with clarity the reproductive structure of the bloom, including stamens and central ovary, rendered at an exaggerated scale for academic study.

The underside retains its original printed label, inscribed “Aceraceae – Vergrössert” (“enlarged”), along with multilingual botanical annotations—reflecting its use within the European educational system of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
